SEEMINGLY ELEGANT DESIGN

Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS)

At Swiss Heritage, our curriculum is based on our distinctive Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) framework and a unique blend diverse learning styles.

The Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) of Swiss Heritage Academy in Kolkata includes our Toddler and Nursery Classes. It provides an essential link between home and the more structured National Curriculums once children reach Year 1 at age 5+.

Elements from various curricula may also be evident in the pedagogical methods employed in the classroom. This includes the most effective aspects of Montessori, Reggio Emilia, and Te Whāriki – approaches that remain leading examples of research-based curricula globally. Our thoughtfully designed curriculum for early childhood education focuses on the holistic development of all students at Swiss Heritage.

Our framework is based on several themes and principles that recognise children as individuals and competent learners and is delivered through a well-planned, play-based approach to learning and development.

Each unique child reaches out to relate to people and things through the Characteristics of Effective Learning, which is followed through all areas of learning including:

  • Playing and exploring
  • Active learning
  • Creating and thinking critically

Prime areas are fundamentals that work together and support development in all other areas including:

  • Personal, social and emotional development
  • Communication and language
  • Physical development

Specific areas include essential skills and knowledge for children to participate successfully in society. These include:

  • Literacy
  • Mathematics
  • Understanding the world
  • Expressive arts and design

Our learning principles grouped into five distinct, but complementary themes:
